Helping us Keep your Home Safe

Access to Your Home

We have a shared responsibility with you, as a tenant, to keep your home safe, warm and in good condition.  To meet these responsibilities, and to protect your property and your health, we sometimes need access to your home.

When we can get through the door, we can act quickly.

We may need access to your home to:

  • Inspect or carry out repairs
  • Investigate damp, mould or other hazards
  • Complete safety checks (such as gas or electrical testing)
  • Respond to concerns raised by you or your neighbours

In some cases, delays in access can mean problems get worse or take longer to resolve.

Understanding your Circumstances

We recognise that there can be many reasons why access isn’t always straightforward. These might include work or caring responsibilities, health concerns or anxiety about visits, or even previous negative experiences.

Our approach is to work with you, not against you. We will always aim to:

  • Agree appointments that are convenient
  • Clearly explain why access is needed
  • Treat your home with respect
  • Listen to any concerns you may have

Your Tenancy Agreement

Your tenancy agreement includes a requirement to provide reasonable access for inspections and essential works. This helps us meet our legal duties and ensures your home remains safe.

We will always try to resolve access issues through conversation first. However, where access is repeatedly not possible and there is a risk to safety, we may need to take further steps.

What You Can Do

You can help by:

  • Letting us know if you cannot make an appointment
  • Contacting us to rearrange at a better time
  • Telling us about any specific needs or concerns in advance

Our priority is always to keep homes safe and healthy.   By working together with you, we can achieve that.
