Digital assistants

Know your iOS from your Android? Read on to find out more about our digital assistant volunteering role.

As part of our ongoing digital inclusion project, we are looking for enthusiastic digital assistants to offer our customers causal training, guidance and advice on using digital devices.

While increasing numbers of older people have smart phones and access to the internet, many lack confidence to make use of certain social media tools which would help to improve their connections with friends and family.

Getting online can make life easier in many ways, but it also comes with the risk of scams and fraud. We also want to teach our customers about online safety - equipping them with the knowledge of what to look out for and what to do if they suspect a scam.

How does it work?

You'll be on-hand to support our customers with reaching their digital goals.

These days we rely on our computers, smart phones, tablets and the internet for everything from socialising to shopping. But while many of us have grown up with these developments, many are feeling left behind.

As more services shift towards digital, you'll be working with our customers to help them get the very most out of ther smartphones, laptops, tablets or Alexa's.

Ideally, you'll have availability to volunteer at least once a week to help kickstart their digital journeys. You'll be working one on one, or with a small group - helping with anything from ordering shopping online, to video calling friends or listening to songs on YouTube.

What skills do I need?

We're looking for some GREAT volunteers who...

  • Have a good working knowledge of digital devices and internet safety
  • Have good people skills

  • Are patient, empathetic and understanding of the needs of our customers

  • Are reliable and enthusiastic

  • Have the ability to run a session and support others

  • Can work well as a part of a team
